Mike and his band return to the road this Fall for a short and sweet handful of shows spanning two weekends on the East Coast in support of his studio album, Moss.

During the first weekend, the band will return to the impenetrable state of New Hampshire and perform in Portsmouth and Lebanon. Three weeks later the band  will pick back up and play Pawtucket, RI and Albany, NY. The band will also return to Northampton, MA, where they played their inaugural gig together back in 2008.

In conjunction with Record Store Day 2011, Mike will release Inside In and Moss Remixes as Limited Edition Vinyl albums that will be available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores across the country.

Nearly eight years after Mike's debut solo release, Inside In, we're unleashing the album on vinyl for the first time as a deluxe double-LP set. For Record Store Day, Inside In has been pressed on 180g orange vinyl and includes "Minkinetics", "Trinners March" and "Be Your Tape", three previously unreleased outtake tracks from the album (available only on vinyl). Musicians on the album include Phish's Jon Fishman, Bela Fleck, Col. Bruce Hampton, Buddy Cage, Vassar Clements and others.

In addition, Moss Remixes, a Limited Edition 7-inch featuring two remixes from Mike's latest solo album Moss (released in October 2010) will be available at participating record stores. The release is limited to 1,000 copies. The idea was not to "remix" the songs, but instead, work with the moments that had lead to the germination of the songs. The A and B sides include full remixes of "Horizon Line" and "Fire From A Stick" (which incorporate bits of original demos, bass and drum jams, and many added extra textures).

This Friday, February 11th, Mike Gordon will be the musical guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. This upcoming Sunday, November 7th at 1:00 pm PST, Mike Gordon will be performing a free outdoor concert in front of the Haight/Ashbury Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop, located at 1480 Haight Street. The show will be free and open to the public.

Kicking off a month-long, cross-country November tour from California to Boston, Mike gushed about the opportunity to play San Francisco twice in one week: "We're at The Independent here in San Fran on the 7th of November," said Gordon, "but getting to play San Francisco twice, especially with this B&J's surprise show, was too much fun to pass up... it's like a tour appetizer for your ears."

The host Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop will opening its doors during the show to give out free scoops of two appropriate flavors. The freebies include Phish Food and Bonnaroo Buzz, the company's 2010 addition to its legendary rock and roll flavors.

You're invited to "The Mossery," a free-form musical event on the eve of the release of Mike Gordon's new studio album Moss. The event will take place at a fully transformed Kenny's Castaway on Monday, October 18th in New York City. There's no cost to get in and you can come, explore and leave as you please. Guests will have the chance to pick up Mike's new album, Moss, which hits stores on Tuesday.

Attendees will have the opportunity to play along, with Mike on bass. We supply the instruments and mikes and you show up. We can't guarantee that everyone will get to (it's first come, first served), but we'll rotate as many willing participants through as possible, because a rolling stone gathers no moss.

The first half of the event will start at 7:30pm and continue through 9:00pm, at which point we'll rotate out all folks, making room for the next flock of people. The second half of the event, with all new participants, will begin at 9:30pm and continue through 11:00pm.

Moss comes only two short years after The Green Sparrow, and about half of its songs stem from the same 50-song burst of creativity that seeded that album. A four-song sequence, comprising "Flashback," "The Void," "Got Away" and "Spiral," goes places no songs have gone before. You might suppose these soundscapes are musical evocations of particularly fanciful sights and sounds experienced while on hallucinogenic vision quests.

Songs like "Spiral" and "The Void" detour into evocatively abstract, meterless areas of sound with a mysterious, textural richness. On the other hand, such numbers as "Can't Stand Still" and "Fire From a Stick" – both joyfully devoted to muses, mentors and the ecstatic wellspring of inspiration - are infectious, danceable, upbeat and viscerally planted in the here and now.

Drummers Joe Russo and Doug Belote crop up throughout the album, and other guests include organist Marco Benevento, keyboardist Page McConnell and drummer Jon Fishman.

Mike and his band spent last week in rehearsals in the mountains of Vermont for their upcoming 8-date March run, which begins with a sold out show this Friday, March 5th in Troy, NY. Wanting to give fans a unique glimpse into the practice space, we're releasing a track that grew out of the session.

Mike Gordon explains: "On the first day of practices, we decided to come to the studio and invite the muse to control us for a day. I led a guided meditation in which we imagined tapping into universal energy that connects from the spheres, through us, and into the center of the Earth, and then we imagined being on stage as the music played the band and the coolest sound we could imagine came out. Each band member then described his aural vision, directing the others to create it. And this little sampling is Craig Myers' vision, entitled 'Birth Of The Universe.' He described ambience wallowing from nothingness, and then mouthed out a rhythm that Todd could then interpret, helping to kick the thing into rock-ass gear. Nice work, Craig."

A free in-store performance and The Green Sparrow album signing has been added at Record Theatre in Buffalo, NY on August 14th.

In addition to the Free show on Burlington's Waterfront that was just announced, three new dates have been added to Mike's 2008 Summer tour. The band will play on August 12th at The State Theatre in Falls Church, VA and August 28th at K-TAOS Solar Center in Taos, New Mexico. Tickets are on sale now.

Mike will also stop by Mountain Stage on August 10th for a live performance. Mike will perform a free concert on Friday, August 15th in Burlington, VT in Waterfront Park overlooking Lake Champlain. In addition to Mike’s performance, Senator Bernie Sanders will address the crowd. Gordon and Senator Sanders last teamed up in 2006 to put on "Honky Tonk the Vote", a sold-out concert for voter registration at the Higher Ground nightclub in Burlington. Bow Thayer and Perfect Trainwreck will open the show. The concert begins at 7:00 PM and capacity is limited. It's being sponsored by Progressive Voters of America.

In support of his upcoming solo album, The Green Sparrow, Mike Gordon will embark on a headlining club tour beginning August 3rd in Philadelphia, PA. The 20-plus date tour will include select festivals and will coincide with the release of his new album out August 5th on Rounder Records. The band will play a special intimate warm-up show at The Iron Horse in Northampton, MA on June 30th. Also of special note is the September 4th show in Chicago, IL at The Park West, which will feature multiple musicians and performance artists, all to be announced shortly.

We're thrilled to announce the release of Mike Gordon’s new solo album, The Green Sparrow. Set for an August 5th release via Rounder Records, The Green Sparrow showcases his wide range of influences in a winning 10-track album that reminds us that Gordon is one of the most imaginative and mold-breaking artists in music today. Recorded at Mike’s home studio in Vermont and mixed at The Barn, his former band’s studio and art space, The Green Sparrow features special guests Chuck Leavell, Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell, Bill Kreutzmann, Ivan Neville and horn players from Antibalas.

Since the break up of Phish in 2004, Mike has participated in many projects, none of which have been purely solo. An artist known for his endless creativity and touring stamina, Gordon took 2007 off from touring and dedicated his time to writing this record. The end result is an eclectic album boasting Gordon’s skillful assimilation of free-form rock & roll, calypso, pop and funk that showcases an unexpected side to Gordon’s songwriting.

From the deeply rooted funk of “Radar Blip” to the rousing intricacies of “Andelmans' Yard,” from the spirited rock of “Traveled Too Far” to the punch of “Another Door,” The Green Sparrow is a playful album from an artist who continually reveals new layers of far-reaching invention. Mike has been added to the 18th Annual High Sierra Music Festival's lineup in Quincy, CA. The festival, which runs from Thursday, July 3 - Sunday, July 6, 2008, will feature more than 75 artists performing throughout the weekend. Tickets are on sale now. Additional performers include Bob Weir & Rat Dog, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Abigail Washburn & The Sparrow Quartet featuring Bela Fleck, Akron/Family, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Charlie Hunter Trio and many others.

Mike is a confirmed performer at The Rothbury Festival, a new environmentally conscious music festival is about to hit the ever-growing U.S. market July 4th weekend: AEG Live (the folks behind Coachella) and Madison House Presents are introducing the Rothbury Festival, to be held in Rothbury, Michigan on July 3rd through 6th at the idyllic Double JJ Ranch near Lake Michigan. The festival’s goal is to draw attention to climate change and clean energy alternatives.

The first batch of tickets go on sale February 27th at the fest’s official site. Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Widespread Panic, Phil Lesh & Friends, Modest Mouse, Sound Tribe Sector Nine and Snoop Dogg are among the many confirmed acts - the fest promises more than seventy bands on eight stages.

Mike will ring in 2008 with Bill Kreutzmann and Scott Murawski in Costa Rica by performing a gig on January 5th, 2008 at Docelunas in the city of Jaco. Built on 5 acres of fruit trees, hummingbird gardens, and surrounded by rain forest covered mountains and rolling green fields, the venue is just minutes from black sand beaches. Proceeds from this event will benefit Garabito Schools Environmental Education via The Central Pacific Chamber of Commerce.

This show will be the latest in an ongoing musical relationship with Mike and Bill Kreutzmann. Mike first played with Bill in 2005 at Warren Haynes' Xmas Jam as Serial Pod (with Trey as well). He played with Bill in the Rhythm Devils in 2006, and Mike recently performed with him in Kaua'i this past September. Scott is a longtime collaborator and was a guitarist in Mike's solo band in 2003 and Ramble Dove in 2006.

Gutt pal Marco Benvento takes to NYC's most fabled live music venue Tonic for a weekly residency this November. Every Wednesday night, Marco will take the stage by himself, and with guests. Mike & Ramble Dove have been rehearsing heavily the past couple of weeks and are up to about 75 song nuggets of honky-tonk goodness. The Dove take to the Northeast next week beginning Memorial Day at Toad's Place in New Haven, and with the exception of the sold out Burlington show, limited tickets are available for the short run of dates, whiskey not included, before they hit Bonnaroo in a couple week's time.

Whelp, my friends, the real mg.com plans began in November 2004 when I sat in Muddy Waters with J&J to brainstorm. After mocking up designs with one theme, I had a vision; I saw an owl on a conference table, high up in a skyscraper. We really went to town taking these owls from the fake world of my mind to the real world of the ww web. Owls have always seemed to "visit" me, and so I'm repaying the visit. Next, we plowed through old photo albums, file cabinets, demo tapes, stories, drawings, and gathered a smattering of entertaining stuff to offer up on the site. One Saturday, my homework assignment was to write a blurb about every project I've ever done. On Thursday night, 4/20 in New York City, Mike won a Jammy award for "Studio Album of the Year" for Sixty Six Steps, his collaboration with guitar virtuoso Leo Kottke. The highly acclaimed album is available by clicking here. Phish was also awarded a Jammy Award for "Best Archival Release" for New Year's Eve 1995 - Live at Madison Square Garden. Mike was on hand to accept both Phish's and his own awards and also performed.

Mike and a handful of Vermont's finest twangers, a/k/a Ramble Dove, will hit the Northeast late this Spring before heading to Bonnaroo later in June. They'll be taking the cozy confines of Burlington, VT's Honky Tonk Tuesdays to the road with stops in NY, MA, and CT, in addition to their June 2nd "Honky Tonk The Vote" Benefit concert for Bernie Sanders in Burlington, VT (with guests Jon Fishman and Grace Potter).

Of special note in this mini-run is the June 4 appearance at the second annual Mountain Jam, a two-day festival held at Hunter Mountain in Hunter, NY. The festival includes on site camping and Gov't Mule will be headlining with two sets each night. Mike Gordon & Ramble Dove will perform, with special guest appearances by Jon Fishman and Grace Potter, on Friday, June 2nd at Higher Ground in South Burlington, VT. This unique concert event entitled, "Honky Tonk The Vote" will benefit Vermont's Independent Congressman Bernie Sanders in his bid for U.S. Senate.

Nominations for the 6th Annual Jammy Award were announced yesterday and Mike Gordon was recognized with THREE nods; Tour of the Year (December 2005 run with the Benevento/Russo Duo), Studio Album of the Year (Sixty Six Steps with Leo Kottke) and Archivial Release of the Year (Phish New Year's Eve 1995 - Live at Madison Square Garden). The award ceremony will take place on April 20th as part of the first Green Apple Music and Arts Festival in New York City. Be sure to vote for Mike today!

Mike Gordon will join the Benevento/Russo Duo in their upper midwest trio debut on the main stage of the 10,000 Lakes Festival July 22 in Detroit Lakes, MN. Other confirmed acts include some guy named Trey Anastasio, MMW, Keller Williams and much more. Check it and buy tix here.

"Another Side of In," a collaborative installation that Mike and his mother, Marjorie Minkin have been working on together for the last several years, will make its gallery debut on March 10th at the Firehouse Gallery in Burlington, Vermont, running through April 30th. Minkin created her abstract, Lexan pieces to visually represent Gordon's ambient audio textures extracted from his 2003 album Inside In. The audio is triggered by viewer's movements in the gallery to create a continually shifting soundscape.

The exhibition will provide a stimulating opportunity for viewers to interact with the installation on a variety of levels. There will be an opening reception for Another Side of In on Friday, March 10 from 5-8pm and an Artist Talk/Q&A session on Saturday, March 11 at 2pm. Both events are open to the public.

What began as a weekly hang paying homage to honky-tonk music, capturing the essence of dancing, drinking and losing the one you love, now makes its way to the backyard of Nashville, country music's capital city.

After an incredible week of practice in New York City, Mike, Trey, and Bill Kreutzmann headed down to Asheville, North Carolina for the 17th Annual Warren Haynes' Xmas Jam. Mike will perform with Trey Anastasio as part of Warren Haynes' 17th Annual Christmas Jam, held December 17th at the Asheville Civic Center in Asheville, NC. Leo Kottke and Mike Gordon will play twenty-five shows at large clubs and theatres this fall, beginning September 15 at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, KS and wrapping up November 2 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. The tour also includes a previously announced mainstage appearance at the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, Texas on September 23.

Mike Gordon and acoustic guitar legend Leo Kottke will play a series of shows this June and July. Marking their first collaboration since Bonnaroo in June 2003, these summer dates will be a mix of festivals, multi-band bills and headlining appearances. We expect to add two or three shows in addition to the ones listed below over the next couple of weeks.

Mike and Leo will be performing old material and new, featuring several songs off their upcoming album SIXTY SIX STEPS, tentatively set for a late summer release on RCA Victor. Recorded in the Bahamas last December and Produced by (Clone Producer) David Z, the duo's second studio album picks up where Clone left off, showcasing the deepening musical relationship between Mike and Leo. The island setting of Nassau's legendary Compass Point Studios served as a musical backdrop, and Bahamian drummer and percussionist Neil Symonette is featured throughout. Neil will also be out on the road with Mike and Leo for these summer dates. A more extensive national headlining tour is being planned for this September and October.
